"Mahogany Grenades"
Erika Dickerson
Missiles wink in night's air like Stars glossing winter's sky.
I watched sparkles illuminate Young eyes and old faces with Necks arching like the Hills it took to get there.
Rainbows mingling with dusk Took focus off how the sun was busy Resurrecting our sphere's other face.
Back on this side, Heaven rained hazel flecks Singeing my heart with each Explosive drop, emitting Reflections of envied eyes.
I begged mahogany blazes to Trickle from glittery havens Hoping sprinkles would spark Memories.
Heartbeats got caught in my throat.
Pictured you standing on city's other Side with native arms around your Hips. Kisses gliding from cheeks to Lips.
I stood wondering If you saw the same embers Igniting ink-stained air Arching over earth.
Wondering if cinders hovered Over your head glistening like your Eyes seem to do when you're happy.
Heartbeats got caught in tear ducks.
Envisioned threads of bolted cinnamon Fire sewing themselves back in the iris of Your eyes
Overwhelmed by the show You'd unknowingly gave, Teary eyed because it was Over
Daylight reintroduces itself with Blue skies and yesterday's smell.
